Abstract
New Zealand and the United States are close strategic partners. The two
countries share a deep and longstanding friendship, united by a commitment to
promote a free, democratic, secure and prosperous world. This article explores
the relations between the two countries in the post-Cold War Era. The
examination is critical and has implications for New Zealand to maintain an
independent foreign policy to protect its own sovereign interests while
balancing economic security and maintaining a productive and respectful
relationship with a great power like the US.
