Objective As the functions of
automotive human–computer interaction interfaces multiply, system complexity
deepens. This study focuses on the driving safety and experience of older
drivers. It examines recent progress in applying cognitive load theory to the
aging-responsive design of automotive interaction interfaces, and
systematically reviews the research methods and measurement approaches of
cognitive load theory.
Methods Through literature
review and induction, this study summarizes the research methods and
applications of cognitive load theory. Using CiteSpace, keyword co-occurrence
and burst analyses were performed on literature from the past 15 years
retrieved from CNKI and WOS to identify research foci and emerging trends.
Conclusion Currently,
automotive interaction interfaces give insufficient attention to older users,
and research applying cognitive load theory in this field remains shallow.
Systematic studies of intrinsic, extraneous, and germane cognitive load in the
presentation and control of driving-interface information therefore hold
considerable research value.
